Activities

Extra-curricular by a strict definition means “outside of the curriculum,” but at St. John Vianney the reality is that our activities-rich environment is co-curricular as it enhances the deep learning that is taking place in the classroom.  The list of co-curricular opportunities is growing rapidly, so check this page often for updates.

Currently we offer the following activities:

Choir

Open to students in second through eighth grades. Practices are held weekly. Led by Principal, Mrs. McCormick.

Science Olympiad

Open to students in sixth through eighth grades. Practices are held weekly. Students compete regionally at Volunteer State Community College in February, and have competed at the state level at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville in March. Led by Middle School Science teacher, Miss Rosenblatt, and our Principal, Mrs. McCormick.

2012 Update:  SJV Team earns medals in 13 events at Regionals…3 gold, 3 silver, and 7 bronze.

Theatre

Student grades based on script chosen. Practice schedule varies based on student role (cast, crew, etc.), and are typically scheduled during March, April, and May, with performances in mid-May. Led by Middle School English/Literature teacher, Mrs. Roberts, and other teachers.

Scrapbooking Club

Held monthly. Led by third grade teacher, Mrs. Wise.

Story and Activity Hour

Open to students in Pre-K and Kindergarten. Held monthly. Led by Pre-K teacher, Mrs. Sneed, and Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Thompson.

Piano Lessons

Private lessons are offered by Mrs. Roberts after school for an additional fee.
