Aerobics With Mrs. Morris
We had a fabulous workout today with Mrs. Morris! She taught us some great activities to keep our bodies moving and healthy. Thank you Mrs. Morris!!!!!

This Week In Kindergarten
***I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend! This is a very short week in Kindergarten. There will be no new sight words this week, but there will be a sight word assessment Wednesday and Thursday. Friday there will be no school for pre-k and kindergarten due to screening of incoming students for the 2012-2013 school year. There will be information coming home this week regarding Iowa Tests. Please check the Wednesday Folder. Homework will be due on Thursady this week. Here is what we will be doing this week.***
MATH – This week we will be identifying and matching equivalent sets, identifying doubles, acting out “some, some more” stories, and drawing pictures for our “some, some more” stories.
SOCIAL STUDIES – This week we will interpret information from charts and recognize that people meet their needs by buying goods and services.
HEALTH – We will finish our study of the Food Pyramid and healthy living this week. Mrs. Morris will be visiting on Wednesady to instruct us in a “kiddie aerobics” class.
RELIGION - Our focus will be on the beginning of the Lenten season. We will prepare for Ash Wednesday and discuss how we can prepare ourselves for the death and ressurection of Jesus.
READING - This week we will read about George Washington and Abe Lincoln and discuss why they were such important leaders. We will also blend initial phonemes to make words, attach the /w/ sound to the letter Ww, make rhyming words by changing the initial phoneme, practice writing the letter Ww. We will discuss our new unit theme “teamwork”, generate questions and statements about the theme, develop new vocabulary and read “Mr. McGill Goes To Town”. THERE WILL BE A SIGHT WORD ASSESSMENT ON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY! (I am allowing myself two days to assess since there are quite a few words. Everyone should be ready on Wednesday!)

Grades K-3: Pope John Paul II Students Visit SJV
Several students from Pope John Paul II came to visit the SJV K-3 students. The JPII students wrote and illustrated versions of classic fairy tales in French. They brought their books and read them to the SJV students. Everyone had a great time.

Dr.Morris Visits Kindergarten
We had such an exciting day! Dr. Morris (Sinclair’s dad) and his friend “Donny the Dragon” taught us the importance of keeping our teeth clean and healthy. We also got to practice brushing Donny’s teeth. Thanks Dr. Morris we had a great time and learned a lot!
Look What’s Happening In Kindergarten This Week
Just a reminder…Valentine cards and boxes due Monday February 13th. We will have our Valentine exchange on TuesdayFebruary 14th.
MATH - This week we will cover designs using tangrams, explore, slides, turns, and flips, identify largest and smallest, identify and cover one half of a shape, pay for items using pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters.
RELIGION - We will finish up with our last part of Joseph (and his coat of many colors). We will learn that God wants us to forgive those who have hurt us.
SOCIAL STUDIES – We will continue with our unit “A Working World”. We will learn the difference between needs and wants.
READING – This week we will identify 5 new sight words, review rhyming words, review the Ff, Jj, Uu, Zz, and Xx sounds. We will practice sound-by-sound blending, discuss the writing process, analyze story characters, discuss reality and fantasy, and practice writing sentences.
SCIENCE - This week we will continue with our study of the Food Pyramid and sample some items from each group. We will create a healthy food plate and a Food Pyramid using food ads.
LIBRARY – This week we will read “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” . The students will then act out the story in small groups.
COMPUTERS - This week we will review the keyboard and practice typing names and sight words.
