Look What We Are Learning In Kindergarten

MATH – This week we will be identifying and ordering numbers from 1-20, reviewing pennies and counting pennies, and matching number cards to sets of objects.

HANDWRITING – This week we will be working on the letters  Hh and Tt.  and the number 7.

SCIENCE – This week we will begin to study the growth process of pumkins, from seed to ripe pimpkin.

RELIGION- This week we will be reading Matthew 6:25-34.  We will also be praying the Rosary together as a school following Mass on Wednesday.

READING – This week we will be focusing on the following skills: recognizing and producing rhyming words, segmenting words into syllables, blending word parts to make words, attaching the /h/ sound to the letter Hh, attaching the /t/ sound to the letter Tt, recognizing the difference between complete and incomplete sentences, comprehension strategies Predicting and Visualizing, new story vocabulary words and five new sight words – be, this, from, I, have.

HEALTH – This week we will be learning what it means to live a healthy life.  We will talk about healthy choices, getting enough exercise, what types of exercises there are, and how we can contribute to a healthy family life.

COMPUTERS – This week we will learn the basic computer terms “internet, web site and web browser”.

FIRE PREVENTION – The Gallatin Fire Department will be coming Monday morning at 9:00! 

Big Thinking Going On In Kindergarten!

Today we practiced decoding and reading sight word books.  We even got to use highlighters!!!!!

 

We also practiced writing upper case and lower case Aa, and the numbers 3, 4, and 7.

 

Look What We Are Learning In Kindergarten!

MATH – This week we will be sorting collections of objects, ordering numbers from 1-20, identifying missing numbers, identifying and counting pennies, and taking our first quarter assessment.

SCIENCE – We will continue with our measurement unit. 

HANDWRITING – This week we will be practicing writing the numbers 5 and 6 and reviewing the numbers 1-4.  We will also be practicing the upper and lower case A and W. 

RELIGION – This week the students will be verbalizing  their understanding that God cares for them and they should be happy to praise God in many beautiful ways.  We will also be reading the Bible story “Jesus’ Prayer” and reciting the Our Father.

READING/LANGUAGE ARTS - This week we will be identifying and decoding 5 new sight words; as, with, his, they, at.  We will be focusing on the follwoing skills; segmenting syllables in names, short /a/ sound, word order, table of contents, new vocabulary words, comprehension strategies Clarifying and Making Connections, comprehension skill Main Idea and Details and analyzing authors purpose.  We will also be taking our unit 3  and first quarter assessment.

APPLES, APPLES, APPLES!

We are learning about Johnny Appleseed and what he did.  Today we tasted three different kinds of apples; one red, one green and one yellow.  We then chose our favorite out of the three and graphed the results.  We found out that the students in this class prefer yellow apples.  What a yummy learning activity!
