SJV is celebrating our 15th anniversary this year, and we have special edition spirit t-shirts to commemorate the occasion. These t-shirts can be worn on Spirit Fridays, to athletic events, or anytime you want to show your Wildcat school spirit. This will be a one-time order. Not a fan of these shirts? Don’t worry! All new spirit t-shirts and hoodies have been ordered for the spirit shop in the school office. We’ll let you know when they arrive. In the meantime, you can check out samples of the anniversary tees in the office. But don’t delay! We are only taking orders through November 15.

The school year has been very busy! The first of the school year the whole school did either Solar Eclipse T-shirts with fabric paint or a Solar Eclipse Oil Pastel project. Here are some photos of their work! In doing this the students learned about what happens in a solar eclipse as well as the Sun’s Corona which is artistically represented in their work:)
Middle School also explored the concepts of positive and negative space with Charcoal drawings and Complimentary Colors with construction paper designs.
In 6th grade we just finished up our chapters covering minerals and rocks. The students learned about properties of minerals and rocks along withs similarities and differences. They learned to perform a streak test, test for Calcite or presence of Calcite in rocks and about the rock cycle. One experiment we performed was the Starburst Experiment. They cut (weathered) the starburst into small pieces (sediments), then they compacted those sediments together to form a sedimentary rock. Using their hands to apply “heat and pressure” they morphed them into Metamorphic rock. Their favorite part was making a small boat of aluminum foil and putting their metamorphic rock on the hot plate to boil it down into “Magma” which results in Igneous rock when cool. They go too see the similarities of the hardened glass like starburst to the Igneous rock Obsidian:)). Here is a short clip of their Starburst metamorphic rock boiling into Magma!Starburst
