4th Grade Book Bag News 10/10/11

Here is what we’re studying this week:

Religion: Jesus, Our Guide

Math: reading time as minutes before the next hour,  Estimate sums of two and three digit numbers, multiplying 10,000, 1000, 100 and 10 by one and two-digit numbers, Identify and calculate U.S. time zones on a map Test Friday, October 14.

Reading/Language Arts: Reread and review The Snowflake:A Water Cycle Story. Review possessive nouns, joining two nouns to combine sentences with similar ideas, spelling and vocabulary. Test Thursday, October 13.

Social Studies: Finish and review study of The Southwest, its environment, history and economy Chapter 1. Test Wednesday, October 12.

Computer: Complete Spelling City assignments to review for Language Arts, spelling and Social Studies (please see Spelling City post for more information)

Music: Identify Treble & Bass visually and audibly

Library: Learn to locate and use different parts of a book and the usage of each: table of contents, index, glossary, dictionary, chapters, publishing information copyright page

NOTE: Parents, please have your child practice his/her multiplication facts 0-12. Very soon we are going to be moving into harder math and knowing these facts will be key in your child’s success.

Social Studies Test update

Parents,

I wanted to let you know that the Social Studies test scheduled for this Friday will be moved to after Fall Break. I do not want to rush the kids through this material so we will take a few extra days and review thoroughly before taking the test once we are back in school.

Next Choir Practice

Reminder…The next choir practice for second through eighth grades will be Monday, October 10 from 3:30-4:10.  Come when you can.  You are welcome anytime!

Spelling Word List • September 27

Spelling Test on 9/19 word list will be on Tuesday. The following words (9/27 list) will be tested after Fall Break. I also want to make you aware of a new spelling resource we have. It is a website that allows me to post our spelling words so that the students can learn, practice and play games with them at home. The website is Spelling City. Once on the site, click on “Find A List” and enter my name, Missy Herrington. Two lists should be available, 9/19 and 9/27, for the students. I will also be introducing the students to the site in Computer class on Monday.

Book Bag News • September 26

Here is what we’re studying this week:

Religion: Studying 6th – 10th Commandments

Math: Continue working with multiples and number lines, learn to write numbers in words/writing checks

Reading/Language Arts: Tuesday spelling test (9/19 word list,) test on Daedalus and Icarus, Grammar test on complete subject and complete predicate, simple subject and simple predicate, compound subjects and compound predicates. Begin a new unit theme on Nature’s Delicate Balance and read the story The Snowflake:A Water Cycle Story.

Social Studies: Begin our next unit on The Southwest, its environment, history and economy. Social Studies Test Friday.

Computer: Review spelling words using the new website resource Spelling City (please see Spelling post for more information)

Music: Repetitions and rounds

Library: Discuss biographies and autobiographies/check out biography to read over Fall Break
