What’s happening in First Grade?

REMINDERS…

Angel gifts are due to school by Wednesday December 17th.  

Christmas party money is Thursday 18th @ 1:15.

SJV Christmas program is Thursday, December 18 – save the date!  

Please join us at 6pm as our school family comes together to celebrate this blessed time of year.  Our students and faculty are working hard to make this year’s program a beautiful and joyous celebration of the birth of our Lord.

First Grade will be shepherds in the Christmas program. I have the costumes and the students will wear their mass uniform under the costume.

This week –

L/A- Unit 4 Lesson 1-5 Assessment will be on Monday, December 15th

L/A- read narrative fictional works such as fairy tales and watch-

Monday- Christopher the Christmas Tree- Discuss and answer comprehension questions and make an edible Christmas tree.

Tuesday- Polar Express- discuss and answer comprehension questions and do activities

Wednesday-Gingerbread man- discuss and answer comprehension questions and decorate a gingerbread man cookie.

Math– collect data and construct appropriate type of graph, recognize numbers to 100, and review skip counting, drawing tally marks, and building numbers using a ten frame.

Religion- Chapter 10: True God & True Man

Know the Hail Mary prayer for a 3-point quiz grade.

Social Studies- Social Studies- map skills Assessment on Tuesday, December 16th.

Music Class: Practicing Christmas Songs for the upcoming Christmas Program

All students will be practicing Christmas Songs in Music Class for the upcoming Christmas Program on Thursday, December 18th.

First Grade will be shepherds in the Christmas program. I have the costumes so look for a note in the Wednesday’s folder explaining in more detail what they are to wear.

This week –

L/A- blend, spell and read words that contain /i/ spelled y, /v/ spelled v, /el/ spelled –le,
/a/ spelled a and a_e; read decodable books and decodable worksheets

L/A-Unit 4 Lesson 1-5 Assessment will be on Monday, December 15th
Math- showing time to the hour on a clock face, Adding 2 to an Even Number, Adding 2 to an Odd Number
Math- Assessment 11 and Fact Assessment 6 will be on Thursday, December 11th
Religion- Chapter nine: Mary Hears Some wonderful news. Know the Hail Mary prayer for a 3-point quiz grade.
Religion- Chapter 9 Assessment will be on Friday, December 12th
                 Hail Mary quiz on Monday, December 15th
Social Studies- review the world, continents and compare a globe to a flat world map, and recognize land and water masses on a map or globe.
Social Studies- map skills Assessment on Tuesday, December 16th

Science- Animal Habitat Assessment on Tuesday, December 9th

December Spanish Class Update

With only two weeks remaining for Spanish classes this semester, we will be discussing Hispanic cultural Christmas stories in Elementary classes and preparing for semester exams in the middle school classes.  Spanish news specific to your student’s grade is listed below:

Pre-K:  We will read and discuss “Too Many Tamales” by Gary Soto.

Kindergarten:  We will be reading and discussing “Too Many Tamales” by Gary Soto as well, however, we will complete an activity next week to accompany the book.

First Grade:  We will read and discuss “The Legend of the Poinsettia” by Tomie DePaola, and complete an activity afterward.

Second Grade:  We will read and discuss “The Night of Las Posadas” by Tomie De Paola, and complete an activity afterward.

Third & Fourth Grade:  Both classes are hard at work learning “Noche de Paz” for our Christmas program on December 18.

Fifth through Seventh Grade:  Exams will be on Thursday, December 11 during regularly scheduled classes.  Study guides will go home on the first class meeting this week, and we will review in class up until the exam.

Eighth Grade:  Exam will be on Wednesday, December 10 during our regularly scheduled class.  A study guide will be distributed during our first class meeting this week as well, and we will review in class up until the exam.
