Newsletter for the week of September 20-26, 2017

Letter from the Principal
Dear SJV Families:

It’s Fun Run week!  We have tried for years to have this event outside on the playground, and each year, Mother Nature moves us into the gym.  We are optimistic that this year will be different.  I’ve just checked the forecast, and there is a 20% chance of scattered thunderstorms, which will hopefully not happen from 12:30 – 3:00!  Regardless, it will definitely be a great event, and I hope you can join us.  Please look in the newsletter below for the link to volunteer.

Today was our first Wildcat Wednesday, and it was great to see how many students are representing SJV in athletics this fall!  I would also like to express my appreciation to the parents of athletes, who rearrange their schedules to accommodate practices, meets and games, and come out to support all of our athletes.  Finally, a big thanks to Mr. Timko, our Athletic Director, as well as our coaches this season for your time and commitment to our students.  We may be a small school, but we are full of spirit!

Have a blessed week!

God bless,

Jennifer McCormick

2017 FUN RUN The annual Fun Run is this Friday, September 22 from 12:30 to 3:00pm!  Students will be bringing home their t-shirts today, which they will wear to school on Friday, September 22 with their PE shorts and tennis shoes.  (Pre-K, Kindergarten and first graders may wear any athletic short in lieu of PE shorts)  We hope all students are asking friends, family, and neighbors to sponsor the run!  Remember, there are prizes for both individuals who raise the most money, as well as the class who has the highest total per student!   Mrs. King sent out a final email reminder earlier today to families that have not yet turned in their permission to run form.  Remember, your child cannot participate without the signed slip.

We’re using (the leading online signup and reminder tool) to organize our upcoming activity.

MORNING DROP OFF SAFETY   While we know all students are excited to come to school each morning, we ask that they remain inside their cars until a teacher opens the gym doors and students may safely go inside.  Please refrain from dropping your child off at the door unsupervised prior to 7:25 am.  Thank you for your cooperation, as our number one priority is keeping every student safe!

IMPORTANT LUNCH CHANGE – MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 25   All students must pack a lunch from home on Monday, September 25.  There will be no lunch service in the cafeteria this day.  We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

SPIRIT DAY FRIDAY – COMING SOON   Show your WILDCAT spirit and support one of our student organizations here at SJV!  The last Friday of every month, students, faculty & staff who bring $1 may dress in any SJV t-shirt or sweatshirt, with jeans and tennis shoes, with the proceeds benefitting one of our school activities.  The first Spirit Day Friday will be September 29, and your $1 will help our FORENSICS team pay for scripts and some of its entry fees in diocesan competitions.  Everyone is also asked to write a short prayer for the organization of the month.  Those prayers will be given to them so they know how much they are supported here in the SJV community.  Go WILDCATS!

TRUNK OR TREAT   Planning has begun for our October 31 fall activities!  Look for the Trunk or Treat flyer in your Wednesday folder this week to see how you can get involved, and look for more information about this fun day in future newsletters!
