Letter from the Principal
Dear SJV Families:
I hope this summer newsletter finds you all doing well and enjoying your time off. We are very excited about the upcoming school year, and look forward to seeing you next week for registration.
I am excited to announce that we have hired Mrs. Kreslyn Ruckman to teach middle school science, art for PK-8, and music for PK-4. She will also be the 6th grade homeroom teacher. Mrs. Ruckman came highly recommended to us by Mrs. Hamlett, and was referred to us by an SJV parent. She has a variety of experience teaching at both the elementary and middle school level at Sumner County Schools, in addition to homeschooling her own children. She is a creative teacher with a degree in Special Education, so she brings expertise in working with both gifted students, as well as students with learning challenges. Her enthusiasm for life and learning is evident, and I have no doubt that the students will enjoy hands-on, differentiated learning opportunities in her classes. I hope you will join me in welcoming Mrs. Ruckman to SJV.
I had several parents reach out to me regarding our new faculty members, and I am thankful for all the positive attitudes. There is sadness when a beloved member (or members) of our faculty choose to leave SJV. However, situations like this remind me that God has a plan, and that He is in control. Only He knows why he leads some people here for a short time and others stay longer. He knows what is best for us and the life of our school and our students, and He provides us with the people who He knows will have the right gifts and talents to share with us.
I understand just how hard change can be, and the uncertainty of new faces and personalities can be daunting. But I always find it helpful to remember that this is God’s school, and His plan for it is perfect. He sees everything, past, present, and future, and knows what we need better than we ever could. I know it is hard sometimes to let go, and let God, having faith that He is working to give us all that we need, but that really is the best plan.
As much as I will miss the departing faculty and their many gifts and talents, I am excited about the new teachers joining us. They are truly wonderful men and women who are thrilled to be joining us at SJV and are eager to share their gifts and talents with our school. So if you or your children are uneasy about the unknown of a new teacher, I pray that you will, as the plaque hanging in my office says, “let your faith be bigger than your fear,” and remember, even your most favorite SJV teacher of all time was a new teacher here at some point.
See you at registration!

NEW UNIFORM PROVIDER As announced earlier this year, we will have a new exclusive uniform provider, Parker School Uniforms, effective June 1. As of this date, all new uniforms must be purchased through Parker, either online at www.parkersu.com, or at their store conveniently located in Rivergate at 2021 Gallatin Pike North. Please remember that all Dennis Uniform items which are still in good condition are grandfathered in and approved for students to wear next year; however, those items that are excessively faded, torn, stained, etc. should no longer be worn. The uniform program is not changing, just the uniform provider.
SOLAR ECLIPSE DAY Most of you are probably aware that Gallatin is in the heart of the ideal viewing zone for the total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21st. SJV will be in session that day and will be incorporating eclipse related instruction in the classroom. We are also hosting a school-specific viewing party (lunch through about 2pm), with enough donated eclipse glasses for the kids and for parents who attend. On July 18 and 20 at registration, there will be more information about the details of the party and a sign-up sheet so we can accommodate parents in the lunch plan. We would love to have a great turnout of parents on August 21st, so please mark your calendars now!
