Letter from the Principal
Dear SJV Families:
I find it hard to believe that the school year is complete! We celebrated 8th grade graduation last night, and as always, the event reminded me of what a special family we have here at SJV. The faculty, staff, and I wish all of our graduates much continued success in high school and beyond, and cannot wait to see all the many things they accomplish in the future.
We will celebrate our Pre-K through 7th grade students on our last day of school, this Friday, May 26. Our day begins with mass at 8 am, which is immediately followed by an awards ceremony. All families are invited to join us for this special day. Following awards, students will enjoy end-of-the-year parties and activities prior to dismissal at 11:30 am.
We look forward to seeing you at end-of-the-year parent-teacher conferences on June 1. If you haven’t already signed up to meet with your child’s homeroom teacher, please do so at the link in the newsletter below. If you are unable to attend, items distributed at conferences will be available for pick up in the school office starting on Tuesday, June 6 at 9am.
I thank you all for sharing your children with us here at SJV this year. We are honored to partner with you in your child’s education, and look forward to working with you again next year. I pray you have a relaxing summer full of family time. Look for continued SJV updates in your email throughout the summer, and remember that the office is open from 9 am – 2 pm on Tuesday and Thursday. Happy summer!

LAST CALL – JUNE 1 PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE SIGN UP All families are invited to schedule a parent teacher conference with the homeroom teacher(s) of their student(s) on June 1, 2017. During these conferences, teachers will discuss each child’s progress for the year, explain ITBS testing results (K-8), distribute final report cards, and provide summer reading lists as well as supply lists for next year. Parents who do not attend a conference on June 1 can pick up this information in the school office during summer office hours (Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9am-2pm) starting June 6. These items cannot be provided earlier for those who do not wish to attend a conference. Please note: The sign up link will be locked at 8:00 am on Thursday, May 25 so that schedules can be finalized for teachers.
This year, we are using signup.com to allow parents to schedule their own conference times.

- Scroll through the appointments to locate the teacher and time slot you would like to sign up for, and click on the orange button that says, “Sign Up!”
- Enter your email address on the next screen, and your name and telephone number on the final screen.
- Click save, and your appointment will be set. Repeat this process to set up a meeting with each of your children’s teachers, if you have more than one child at SJV.

TOMORROW IS PREDS DAY AT SJV!! In appreciation of our $3,000 Nashville Predators Foundation grant, and in celebration of the Predators win last night, advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals, we are declaring Thursday, May 25 Nashville Predators Day at SJV. Students may wear a gold shirt with either uniform khaki shorts or blue jeans, and tennis shoes. Examples of a gold shirt could be an SJV PE shirt, the 2017 SJV Wildcat 5K shirt, or if you already have a gold Predators’ jersey or t-shirt, students could wear that. (It is not necessary to go out and buy something new.) We are thankful to the Nashville Predators for their generous support of our school and look forward to cheering them on in their pursuit of the Stanley Cup!
NEW UNIFORM PROVIDER As announced earlier this year, we will have a new exclusive uniform provider, Parker School Uniforms, effective June 1. As of this date, all new uniforms must be purchased through Parker, either online at www.parkersu.com, or at their store conveniently located in Rivergate at 2021 Gallatin Pike North. Please remember that all Dennis Uniform items which are still in good condition are grandfathered in and approved for students to wear next year; however, those items that are excessively faded, torn, stained, etc. should no longer be worn. The uniform program is not changing, just the uniform provider.
EXTENDED CARE PROGRAM 2017-2018 We are currently accepting applications for an aftercare supervisor for the 2017-2018 school year. Mrs. Mitchell is going back to school and the work schedule conflicts with her school schedule. We are thankful to Mrs. Mitchell for her work this year. The position hours are 3:30 pm to no later than 6:00 pm on all full days of school, and the pay rate is $8.25/hour. Interested applicants should contact Mrs. McCormick.
Unfortunately, we will not be continuing the Before Care program for the 2017-2018 school year. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
FACULTY NEWS Mrs. Kernell informed us last week that she will not be returning to SJV next fall. We are thankful to her for her hard work the past few years and wish her continued success in future endeavors. We are looking for one additional full-time middle school teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. This individual must hold a valid Tennessee Teaching License, and be qualified to teach 5th through 8th grade religion. Interested candidates should email Mrs. McCormick with a cover letter and resume.
LOST AND FOUND There are many items in the lost and found in the school office. We encourage students and parents to check in the office to make sure nothing in the lost and found belongs to you. Please be aware that the lost and found will be cleaned out after conferences on June 1, and all items will be discarded or donated.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Registration for the 2017-2018 school year will be from 9am – 2pm on Tuesday, July 18 (last names A-L) and Tuesday, July 20 (last names M-Z). All families, both new and returning, must attend registration to verify information for the upcoming school year, buy lunch tickets, sign up for the aftercare program, purchase from the uniform consignment closet, and find out more about CIA events and fundraisers and sports/extracurricular activities. If you are unable to attend on your scheduled day, the make-up registration date is Tuesday, July 25 from 9am – 2pm.

Congratulations Matthew Staley, 2017 JP2 graduate (SJV Class of 2013) on receiving the Bishop Kmiec Award from Pope John Paul II High School. The award is given to a deserving student who truly represents the mission of JP2.

KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS If you shop at Kroger and have a Kroger Plus Card, you can support SJV with every purchase you make. Simply sign up at https://www.kroger.com/communityrewards and designate SJV using code 89457. Kroger will donate a percentage of your purchase to SJV, at no cost to you. During the last cycle (12/1/16 to 2/28/17), SJV had 55 households participate, which generated a donation from Kroger to SJV in the amount of $655.10.

Girl Scout Sign-Ups!
Girl Scout Troop 281 would like to invite rising 4th – 8th grade girls to join our troop next fall. Girls meet on Saturdays once a month at Mrs. Kirkpatrick’s home and participate in various Girl Scout events across middle Tennessee. Girls will encounter a variety of fun and challenging activities, like earning badges, selling cookies, going on exciting trips, exploring the outdoors and doing community service projects.

Catholic United for the Arts, a new group for Catholic artists and entertainers in the Diocese of Nashville to support one another spiritually. Please come if you are 18 or older and involved in arts and entertainment in any way: actors, musicians, dancers, photographers, painters, videographers, etc. Monthly meetings consist of Prayer for Artists, a brief spiritual meditation, discussion, and optional social gathering. St. John Vianney Church Summer Fun!
Totus Tuus, a summer youth program, is being held at St. John Vianney Church June 25-30, 2017. For grade school students (grades 1-6) the program runs Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. For junior high and high school youth (grade 7-12) the program runs Sunday-Thursday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Totus Tuus combines catechesis and having FUN! The youthfulness and energy of the teaching team is contagious. Come out and join us!
Cost is $20 per student or $60 per family.

Camp JPII offers summer fun for kids age 5-18 the weeks of June 5-9th, June 12-16th, June 19-23rd, and June 26-30th. Camps run Monday-Friday in two sessions: 9 a.m.-noon and 12:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Before care, after care, and meal plans are available as well as the Pick Four Discount for those who sign up for four half-day camps. Catholic Charities’ Family Homelessness Initiative Program needs volunteers to support families transitioning into housing. Catholic Charities of TN’s Family Empowerment Program assists families at-risk of homelessness in Nashville achieve housing and financial stability through case management and building social support. We are in need of willing, compassionate volunteers to support our neighbors in their times of need. Many families have moved into homes without food or without the small necessities of everyday home life. Volunteers can make a drastic difference by delivering a meal or welcome basket to ensure that neighbors feel warm, supported, and stress-free upon moving into their new home.
