Letter from the Principal:

Dear SJV Families:

 

This Friday marks the end of third quarter, and report cards will go home next Wednesday.  With the lack of winter weather this year, and the springtime temperatures, it may feel as though the year is nearly over, but we are not quite there yet with a busy and important quarter to go!  If you have any questions about your child’s school year thus far, or how you can help him/her have a great fourth quarter, please don’t hesitate to talk with your child’s teacher.

 

For those of you who are not aware, Mrs. Christi Kemp had emergency gall bladder surgery on Monday morning, so please keep her in your prayers.  She is recovering at home and will be out a week or two, depending on how quickly she heals.  Please also keep Mrs. Kathy King in your prayers as she navigates her new position.  I know we both appreciate your patience as she gets to learn things in the office here.  When Christi returns, she will be training Kathy, but for now, there may be a few questions we can’t answer, and we are grateful for your understanding.

DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID FOR 2017-2018 IS APPROACHING FAST!  The deadline to apply for financial aid is March 31, 2017, and families who wish to be considered must have submitted an application/enrollment contract to the school, as well as a tuition assistance application through TADS.com.  If you have questions, please call the school office.

IMMEDIATE FAMILY DISCOUNT FOR 5K PARTICIPANTS ENDS MARCH 10TH.  Why pay more if you don’t have too? Registration fees go up THIS FRIDAY, MARCH 10, and anyone registering after that date is not guaranteed one of our fabulous SJV Wildcat 5K t-shirts!  Registration forms have gone home in your child’s Wednesday folder last week, and are also available in the office.  Students who participate in any of the runs on April 8 will receive a 5K t-shirt out of uniform day after the event.  Also, don’t forget that students who run the 5K AND beat Mrs. McCormick get a button, special recognition, and bragging rights!  Don’t miss out on this fun event!  You can contact the school office with any questions you may have.

SPRING PICTURE DAY IS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15  Students may wear their Easter Best and have their picture taken – just in time to have a copy made for grandparents, aunts and uncles, and the whole family for Easter!

WAY TO GO WILDCATS

“We may be small – but we are mighty!”  The SJV Forensics team competed March 4th at the Diocese of Nashville Forensics tournament.  Zeyna Krampotich and Nolan Beasley placed FIRST overall in the Duet Acting Competition.  The competition consisted of students from all of the Diocese of Nashville schools who had previously placed in the top three in the category in other competitions.  Zeyna and Nolan were the “best of the best”!  Also competing were Shealee Smith and Chloe Rausch who competed in the Duet Interpretation category.  This is the first year for these amazing 5th graders to compete and they placed EIGHTH overall for the entire diocese!  Expect great things from these young actresses!  Our team as a whole was also awarded the Carolyn Baker Award for the entire tournament.  Carolyn Baker is the founder of Forensics in the Diocese of Nashville.  Winning the Carolyn Baker award is a great honor as it is awarded to the team with the highest average for all competitors.  GO WILDCATS!  It has been an amazing year in Forensics.  Watch for updates on all of the awards presented to our students and our school this year!

EXTRA-CURRICULAR SCHEDULE

Choir (1-8) – Wednesday, March 15th from 3:30 – 4:30 pm and Friday, March 10th during recess.

Junior Service Council (1-4):  (2nd Tuesday of the Month) March 14th from 3:30 – 4:30 pm

Student Service Council (5-8) – Council meets twice a month during middle school recess

Junior Science Olympiad (1-5): (1st and 3rd Tue of each month) April 4th from 3:30 – 4:30 pm

Volleyball Practice (4-6):  Monday and Wednesday from 3:30 – 5:00 pm

 

KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS   If you shop at Kroger and have a Kroger Plus Card, you can support SJV with every purchase you make.  Simply sign up at https://www.kroger.com/communityrewards and designate SJV using code 89457.  Kroger will donate a percentage of your purchase to SJV, at no cost to you.  During the last cycle (9-1-2016 to 11-30-2016), SJV had 50 households participate, which generated a donation from Kroger to SJV in the amount of $694.45.

 

CIA (Community in Action): 

 

Our next CIA meeting is Monday, March 13th at 6 pm with a presentation by our 5th grade students to get the meeting started.   Additionally, Mrs. Roberts will be providing babysitting for students and their siblings while the meeting is in progress.  All SJV families are welcome and encouraged to attend to find out what’s going on with our CIA activities and fundraisers this year and earn an hour of volunteer time!  Meetings never last more than one hour and are a great way to find out about school events and get to know other families.  See you there!

 

SJV Spirit Day at PANERA BREAD – GALLATIN. SJV will be having a spirit night on Thursday, March 16 at Panera Bread in Gallatin, so mark your calendar and save the date!  A flyer with more information will be sent home as the event draws closer.

NEWS FROM AROUND THE DIOCESE/COMMUNITY

 

St. John Vianney Church Summer Fun!

Totus Tuus, a summer youth program, is being held at St. John Vianney Church June 25-30, 2017.   For grade school students (grades 1-6) the program runs Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.  For junior high and high school youth (grade 7-12) the program runs Sunday-Thursday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

 

Totus Tuus combines catechesis and having FUN!  The youthfulness and energy of the teaching team is contagious.  Come out and join us!

 

Cost is $20 per student or $60 per family.

 

Registration forms will be available in the church and school office beginning in March.

 

Camp JPII 2017.  Our summer camp program, Camp JPII 2017, is now open for registration!

Camp JPII offers summer fun for kids age 5-18 the weeks of June 5-9th, June 12-16th, June 19-23rd, and June 26-30th.  Camps run Monday-Friday in two sessions: 9:00 a.m. – noon and 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.  Before care, after care, and meal plans are also available as well as the Pick Four Discount for those who sign up for four half-day camps.

New camps this year include Dance Camp, Track Camp, several art camps including Clay Creations, Making the Ordinary Extraordinary, and DIY Design Painting, Rock and Roll History, Model United Nations and Debating, and Ready…Set….Go Algebra.  With 40 camps to choose from, there is something available for every age and every interest!

Pope John Paul II High School Presents “Shrek the Musical” – March 10, 11 12

Camp St. Cecilia is a summer program designed to give girls ages 4-17 an opportunity to have summer fun while learning. Campers experience St. Cecilia Academy’s academics, athletics, and fine arts programs and interact with faculty, students, coaches, alumnae, and parents. New this year–Camp St. Cecilia is happy to offer before and after-care from 7:30-8:45 a.m. and 4-5:30 p.m. Girls will enjoy a snack, play games, and participate in other activities. Get artsy this summer at Camp St. Cecilia

Girls can explore the fine arts at Camp St. Cecilia this summer! Art camps include clay, mixed media, and much more. Girls can dance in a variety of dance camps. The budding actress can shine on the SCA stage in the theatre camp. St. Cecilia Academy Choral Concert

St. Cecilia Academy Choral Concert at Cathedral of the Incarnation, March 10th at 7:30 p.m. Directed by Stephanie Hahn Nolan featuring the Stabat Mater, by Pergolesi.  St. Cecilia Academy choral students will be accompanied by strings and organ.  This concert is open to the public. Donations will be accepted.
