Look What’s Happening In Kindergarten

The students have been doing a great job and working so very hard to complete the Sounds Reading Club reading program.  They are super excited because this is the last week.  Please complete and turn in your child’s reading log on Friday.  In the next week, there will be a permission slip sent home for attending the Sounds baseball game on Tuesday April 29, 2014.  I am so proud of all the reading accomplishments!

Spring uniform (optional) goes into effect on Tuesdau April 1st.  Please refer to the handbook for any uniform questions.

Kindergarten graduation pictures will be taken this Wednesday, April 2.

Still need volunteer hours?  Volunteer to help at the first  SJV Wildcat 5K this Saturday April 5th.

Here’s what’s happening in  the classroom this week.

MATH – This week we will be acting out and drawing “some, some went away” problems, identifying and making symmetrical designs, using indirect comparisons to compare height and width, identifying hot and cold objects, and taking oral assessment 13; counting by 5s, identifying geometric solids, and covering a design with tangrams.

SCIENCE – Will will continue with our Organisms unit.  This week we plant seeds!

READING – This week we will review the letters of the alphabet and their sounds, blend initial sounds, identify the long /a/ sound, review rhyming words, decode 5 new sight words, and follow multi-step directions.  We will also review table of contents, introduce our new unit “Ready, Set, Grow”, set goals for reading, develop an understanding for new vocabulary words, use the pronouns he, she, and it.  Our selections this week are “What’s Alive”, and “A Tree Is Planted”.

RELIGION – This week we will identify articles used in the celebration of mass and other liturgical celebrations.

WRITING – This week we will brainstorm ideas about spring to begin the writing process.
