Look What’s Happening In Kindergarten!

I would like to thank everyone who helped make Catholic Schools Week here at SJV such a wonderful week.  A very special thank you to all the families who helped make teacher appreciation day so wonderful.  We are truly blessed to have the opportunity to educate your children!  Thank you for all you do!

Monday is the 100th day of school!!!  We have many fun and exciting things to do revolving around the number 100.

Here’s what’s happening in the classroom.

RELIGION – This week we continue with Joseph.  We will read the next part of the story “Joseph Helps the People”.

MATH – This week we will identify and sort tangram pieces, cover designs using tangrams, estimate length and width using nonstandard units, make a pictograph, and explore flips, slides and turns.

SCIENCE – This week we will discuss the importance of healthy meals and snacks and be introduced to the “Healthy Food Plate”.  We may even sample some healthy snacks!!!

SOCIAL STUDIES – This week we will discuss how our basic needs are met and understand the difference between goods and services.

HANDWRITING – This week we will focus on proper letter formation of words in simple sentences.

READING/LANGUAGE ARTS – We will blend phonemes to make words, attach the /w/ sound to the letter Ww and the /k/ sound to the letter Kk.  We will decode 5 new sight words, practice writing complete simple sentences, develop an understanding for new vocabulary words,  discuss the concept of “teamwork” and generate questions about our new unit.We will also use the comprehension strategies asking questions and making connections.
