News for the week of January 29 – February 4, 2014

Letter from the Principal

Dear SJV Families:

Happy Catholic Schools Week, and Happy Parent Appreciation Day!  Everyone at SJV is so very grateful for all of the love and support you share with us, but most importantly, we are thankful that you allow us to spend every day with your precious children!  We hope you enjoyed your muffins today, and hope that your children also show their appreciation of you when they get home this afternoon.

As we conclude our week and celebration of Catholic Schools Week, we will have Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day on Thursday.  Many thanks to the families who are contributing to the appreciation breakfast tomorrow morning.  On Friday, we will celebrate Grandparents Day with Mass, an assembly, and classroom visits.  The students are excited to show their grandparents all they do here at SJV.

Finally, we will be celebrating our school at all St. John Vianney masses this weekend.  Not only will the teachers and I be talking with prospective parents in the narthex, but we welcome our students to wear their Mass uniforms at any of the three weekend masses (please see us in the narthex to earn an out-of-uniform pass for next week).

Thank you for joining us in our celebration of SJV and the blessings of Catholic education this week!

In Christ,

Jennifer McCormick

PARENT REMINDER:  please be advised that there is no aftercare on Grandparents Day –  Friday, January 31st.  Dismissal is at 11:30 am.

DO YOU HAVE YOUR TICKETS FOR THE SJV ACOUSTIC EVENING AND SILENT AUCTION YET?  Come spend a great evening listening to fabulous music and stories from the road from fabulous featured performers Eddy Raven, Frank Myers, Billy Montana, Jimmy Nichols, and Danny Wells!  This fun-filled evening is scheduled for Saturday, February 15th at 6:30 in the social hall.  Event fliers and tickets are available in the school and church office.

CLASS PROJECT AUCTION Every homeroom class is hard at work on a special, one-of-a-kind class project to be auctioned off at the Acoustic Evening on February 15.  Can’t attend that evening?  You can still place a silent bid on the item(s) of your choice in the school office.  All projects will be displayed in the office from February 10-13, where you may place your proxy silent bid.  Don’t miss this opportunity to have a special memento from your child’s class for the 2013-2014 school year!

THANK YOU  to Patrick Collins, Katie Shea Collins, Zeyna Krampotich, Jasmine Krampotich, Ethan Jilek, Ava Jilek, Megan McCormick, Erin Campbell, Henry Hutt, Grady Gulleman, Guinnevere Gulleman, Natalie Cullen, Sarah Cullen, Bridget Cullen, Sammy Cullen, Brian Raybourne, Ben Raybourne, Braden Raybourne, Clair Wehby, Noah Wehby, Alex Marzano, Tessa Kemp, Maddy Bennett, Nicholas Crump, Joe Crump, Jake Shelby, David Cassman, Maggie Raynes, and Thomas Gad for attending Mass at Our Lady of the Lake this past weekend in their school uniforms in honor of Catholic Schools Week.  Each of these students have earned an “out of uniform” pass for this Thursday, January 30th for showing off their school pride!

There is still a chance for you to honor your school and say thank you to the parish for all they do for our school at Mass this weekend at SJV.  Any student that wears their Mass uniform to either the Saturday 4:30 pm or Sunday 8:00 am or 10:30 am Masses and speaks to one of the teachers in the Narthex will earn an “out of uniform” pass.

BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT THIS SATURDAY AT SJV!   SJV is hosting basketball games this Saturday, February 1st.  Come out and watch the 3rd and 4th grade boys take on Holy Rosary at 8 am and St. Bernard at 10!  Craving more basketball?  Our 7th and 8th grade girls will be taking on St Edward in their gym at noon, and the 7th and 8th grade boys will be taking on St. Bernard at 4:30 in the St. Pius Gym.  Hope to see you there showing off your Wildcat Pride!

If you would like to earn volunteer hours, but can’t make it to the school, our concession stand is in need of items for this weekend’s games.  We are in need of 16 or 20 oz Gatorade-any flavor, bottled water, full sized candy bars, and snack sized bags of plain potato chips.  For every $10 donated you earn 1 volunteer hour.

Each year our current Pre-K students, as well as any newly enrolled Pre-K and Kindergarten students, take a readiness screening for the coming school year.  This year’s screening is scheduled for Friday, February 21st.  In order for this to be possible, the students in Pre-K and Kindergarten will not have school on that day.

We apologize in advance for the disruption of your normal school schedule.  If you have any questions about the readiness screening or its scheduling, please feel free to contact the school office.

THE VALENTINE’S DAY PARTY IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!  Please send in your child’s $2 in an envelope with their name, grade, and party $ written on the envelope to your child’s homeroom teacher so they can plan accordingly.  Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about what is planned or if they need any help on the day of the event.
