Rockin’ (again) in Week 21!

Hello Parents!

I want to start off by apologizing for my lack of posting.  Things got so busy right before/during the Christmas season it was extremely hard to keep up.  I am definitely learning a lot this year when it comes to time management!  I guess this goes without saying, my New Year’s “School” resolution is to get back on track with posting.  I cannot believe the school year is more than half over!  Time sure is flying by, and we still have so much to cover before the end of the year! Furthermore we have ITBS testing coming up in March, therefore we will be hard at work the next few months to prepare as much as possible for them.

February 5th: Wanted Book Reports Due!

This Week’s Playlist:

Religion: We will be working on our class project to be auctioned off at the acoustical evening.  We will also begin working on our terms for the Passing on the Light of Faith (an assessment of catholic formation of students in catholic schools here in Nashville) Students will be making flash cards of the terms and topics that will be presented to them on the assessment. Students will participate in an online assessment of the Religion Curriculum for their respective grades.  The assessment will be given during the month of April.

Reading: We have transitioned into our second book putting us in Unit 4. The theme of this unit is Earth, Moon, and, Sun. This week’s story is titled, Sun  by Steve Tomecek.  Even though this is a short week, we will still be having a test on Friday (1/24).

Spelling: Words contain suffixes -ly, -y, -ment, and -tion.  If you have not noticed, our students are up to twenty spelling words now that we are in the second half of the year.  This is as high as I will go with them.

Math: I want to start off by saying AGAIN that your student should be studying their multiplication flash cards every night.  Memorization is the key to fluency of the facts.  At the beginning o almost every class period your student takes a two-minute timed fact test.  They must pass each level of facts twice before moving on to the next.  This is why nightly practice is key. This week the students will be working on identifying missing addends in a some, some more story, subtracting two-digit numbers with review of borrowing, and writing numbers to 1,000 using words.

Science: Unit C – Chapter 2 – Forces That Shape the Land. Students will begin the chapter by creating vocabulary flashcards to use as a study aid.  They will complete a science investigation, as well as create a four-fold plate tectonics book.

Social Studies: Students are starting of this week by taking a written assessment of Chapter 4.  Later in the week we will be jumping ahead to Chapter 8 – How Government Works.
