This Week in Fourth Grade!

I hope you all had a great three-day weekend! This week, the spotlight is on James. We have enjoyed learning more about him! Here’s what’s happening this week:

Math: This week in Math we will be learning about number lines and multiples. We will be taking some timed tests on multiplication to see improvement in our own skills!

Reading: Since this week is a shortened week, we will not be having a spelling test or reading test as usual. Instead, we will be examining poetry. Each student has chosen a poem to read aloud on Thursday. They have each taken their poems home  to be practiced, so they feel comfortable reading them aloud. In addition, we will be taking a benchmark assessment on Friday. This is just an assessment to see where we are at this point in the year. It involves reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, and grammar. This will not be scored as a test grade; it is merely preparation for standardized testing, as well as an indicator of progress.

Writing: This week we will finish our biographies by the end of this week. We will also be learning about complete subjects, complete predicates, simple subjects, and simple predicates.

Science: This week, we will continue our study of Chapter 3: Plant Growth and Adaptations. We will be talking about types of roots, and investigating how plants “breathe.”

Social Studies: In Social Studies this week, we will be concluding the introduction of our book and beginning Chapter 1. We will begin by focusing on vocabulary from the chapter.

Religion: This week we will be finishing chapter 3 by talking about the Tower of Babel. We will then take a test over chapter 3 on Thursday.
