This week in Kindergarten
Just a quick reminder that all Scholastic book orders are due this Friday, August 30th. Here’s what’s happening in the classroom this week.
MATH – This week we will be counting using one-to-one correspondence, exploring linking cubes, creating AB patterns, reviewing math tools introduced thus far, and taking oral assessment 1; identifying and naming shapes.
HANDWRITING – This week we will be practicing the letters P and B. We will also begin practicing writing first names using only one upper case letter at the beginning.
RELIGION – Our Bible story this week is “Jesus Helps Five Friends”. We will verbalize how we can be a good friend like Jesus.
SOCIAL STUDIES – This week we will begin our unit on communities. We will identify different types of homes, define what a neighborhood is and who our neighbors are.
READING/LANGUAGE ARTS – This week we will listen for missing sounds and rhyming words, learn to categorize objects, recognize and produce rhyming words, listen for and identify sequencing words, identify the letters E, F, and G. We will also identify print and book features, use comprehension strategies clarifying, classifying, and predicting. We will read and respond to a pre-decodable.
