News for the week of May 8-14, 2013

Letter from the Principal:

Dear SJV families:

We have reached that bittersweet time of year during which I know you will all see me cry at least once.  You may have caught me at First Holy Communion last Saturday, as I was so very proud of our second graders as they received the Eucharist for the first time.  Today not only did I teach 8th grade Spanish for the last time (their exam is on Friday), but our 7th graders took their first step toward being leaders of the school today as they ate lunch with representatives from JPII.  And while so many of you have commented to me that I must be excited about summer if I can tell you there are only 14 days of school left, I am truly savoring those days, and do not long for them to rush by.

There are so many more milestones and bittersweet moments to come over the next few weeks.  I can’t tell you how proud I am of our students, and how much I love each and every one of them.  While the weeks ahead will pass very quickly, and before you know it we will be saying our goodbyes, please remember to take snapshots in your memory of your precious children.  Time passes much too quickly, and before we know it they will all be grown (and hopefully a few of them, years from now, will get married, have children, and bring them back to SJV so we can teach a second generation).

Below you will see a list of the many important dates we have in the next few days.  I hope you will join us when you can, to witness the wonderful moments in the lives of these amazing human beings.

God bless,
Jennifer McCormick

P.S.  If you think I cried as I wrote this – you know me well!  J

AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM MRS. MCCORMICK:  I am very pleased to announce that Ms. Miriam McGill will be joining us as our 4th Grade Teacher next year.  Ms. McGill recently moved to the area from Indiana.  She has a B.S. in Elementary Education, with minors in Middle School Math Education and Reading Education from Indiana State University.  She acquired student teaching and clinical experience in 4th grade at both public and Catholic schools.  Her former professor at Indiana State University highly recommended her saying, “As a former principal, I only wish I could have the good fortune of hiring her.  Miriam is knowledgeable, organized, and communicates well.  She is very professional and will be a loyal and productive addition to a school learning community.”  One of her cooperating teachers in 4th grade, also a former principal, stated “I would hire Miriam quickly if given the opportunity.  She was always well-prepared, and had a very good relationship with her students.  She had their best interest and individual needs at heart.”  Miriam attended Catholic schools from Pre-K through 12th grade, and is passionate about Catholic education.  She is a faith-filled young woman who I know will be a wonderful addition to the SJV family.  Father Gideon, Mrs. Roberts, and I are very impressed with Ms. McGill and are excited to have her as part of our faculty.  I know you will join me in making her feel welcome when she joins us in August.
