Grade 3: This Week at a Glance: April 29 – May 3

May Crowning is on Thursday, May 2. Please send flowers for your child to present to Mary at Church. Friday is an early dismissal day!

NOTE:  Spring is in the air, but we are still learning new material! Please make sure your child is completing homework, studying for tests, and getting enough sleep.

RELIGION: This week the students will complete their study on Mary, Mother of God and begin to learn about the Holy Spirit.

READING: We will read two stories this week:  The Go Around Dollar by Barbara Johnston Adams and Lemons and Lemonade by Nancy Loewen .  We will be reading for enjoyment, so we will not have a reading test this week.

SPELLING: The spelling list is posted on spellincity; assignments are due on or before Friday. Friday’s test will be multiple choice. Students will have to select the word that is spelled correctly.

LANGUAGE ARTS: The students are creating a grammar book. They are making a cover, table of contents, glossary, and several pages with different things they learned this year.  This book will serve as a review for the end of year test.  We are not having weekly grammar tests since we  have finished our last unit.

MATH:  The students will continue to work on 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication and long division. This week the students will learn how to graph ordered pairs on a coordinate plane, use order of operations to solve problems, determine place value to the hundred millions, write decimals to the hundredths place, and write a remainder when dividing. Math assessment are on Wednesdays.

SCIENCE: This week, we will finish our unit on Forces and Motion. The test on the unit will be on Thursday, May 2. The students will complete the chapter review in class on Wednesday. It is very important that the students know all of the vocabulary words. Every vocabulary word is on the test. The students also need to thoroughly understand the concepts in the unit so that they use their knowledge of the topics to answer higher level thinking questions. The test will cover information found on pages F62 – F76. The students should study a little bit each night. Studying in smaller increments over time helps retention and is less stressful for the student.

SOCIAL STUDIES: We will continue to read stories about economics throughout the week.

HEALTH:  This week, the students will learn about several topics in health. Mr. Krampotich will be coming to share his knowledge on safety and first aid.

TECHNOLOGY: This week we will use Nourish Interactive to explore health topics.

LIBRARY:  As the school year comes to a close, please check your home, car, backpack, etc.  for books from the school and classroom library.  All library books are due to the school on or before May 10, 2013.

Please remember to have your child wear his/her Mass uniform on Thursday and bring a flower(s).
