Elementary School Spanish & Music – Week of 3/11

Here’s what is planned for Elementary Spanish and Music Classes this week:

Pre-K:  In Music we will continue working on singing a melody and following the directions of a conductor.  In Spanish, we will review the vocabulary we have learned so far by singing our songs on colors, numbers, and parts of the body.

Kindergarten:  In Music we will begin working on moving our bodies to a specific rhythm.  We will learn basic dance steps, and clap our hands to the rhythm of the music.  In Spanish, we will read If I Had a Dragon… in Spanish, and look for cognates, context clues, and words we know to help us decipher the story.

1st Grade:  In Spanish, we will continue reading El Mar/The Ocean, as we pretend to be Spanish detectives, listening for words we already know within the text of the story.  In Music, we are using portions of the movie “The Sound of Music” to listen and interpret the style and mood of music through performance.

2nd Grade:  In Spanish, we will play color bingo for one more week to reinforce our color words.  In Music, we are using portions of the movie “The Sound of Music” to listen and interpret the style and mood of music through performance.

3rd Grade:  In Music, we are using the San Francisco Symphony’s website for kids to practice music performance.  Each student uses the computer to perform a piece of music of their choice.  In Spanish, we will begin discussing verbs, and learn some common infinitives.

4th Grade:  In Music, we will be discussing the concepts of a chord vs. single line of melody, repetition, and variation.  In Spanish, we will complete Lesson 4 in our textbooks on currency in Spanish-speaking countries, and begin Lesson 5 on the days of the week in Spanish.  We will also discuss the countries of Guatemala and Honduras.
