Grade 3: This Week at a Glance – December 17-19
Please note that assignments and tests are subject to change based on the students’ progress and understanding during the week. The most accurate account of what is due and when tests will be is always your child’s signed agenda.
RELIGION: The students will practice for the Christmas play. The play will be held Tuesday, December 18 at 6:00 pm. The students should meet in the church at 5:45 wearing their Sunday best . We will continue our study of the 10 Commandments after our break. We will also enjoy a baptism celebration on Monday.
READING: When we return from Christmas Break, the students will be able to earn points on Book Adventure; or, if the book they are reading is not on Book Adventure, they may write a book report. Quality work will be expected to earn points. Book reports will be graded based on a rubric. The report format and the rubric will be sent home after Christmas break.
HANDWRITING: The students have been working hard on their handwriting. After the break, the students will be required to write in all cursive. Students will lose points on their spelling tests for not dotting i’s, crossing t’s, and for incorrect letter formation (n instead of an m).
MATH: Please have your child practice his/her math facts over the break. It is essential that the students know these facts. After the break we will finish learning the facts and then we will begin more complex concepts using multiplication and division. This will include reducing fractions, multiplying two and three digits by one digit, and solving word problems.
SCIENCE: The students will complete an activity on Monday on natural resources. They will have a test on the soil unit on Tuesday. The students were given a study guide and workbook pages to help them study for the test. After the break we will begin our Unit on space.
SOCIAL STUDIES: Almost all of the students have finished their kits. When we return, we will continue to learn the 50 states. This link is good for locating the states. It is fun and challenging. http://jimspages.com/States.htm.
TECHNOLOGY: Presentations will be given! Some of the students began to learn how to create an Animoto. We will learn several ways to use technology for learning and for creating documents and presentations. Click here to open a page of internet sites. It is essential that you monitor your child’s internet usage. Highlight the site you would like to go to, then right click on the site and choose “open hyperlink” to go to site.
LIBRARY: The Book Adventure contest ends 12/19/12. I am adding a Vacation Contest. This is an optional contest. Each student who earns 300 points or more over the break will earn a reward of their choice (teacher desk, ice cream, couch for the day, bring a stuffed animal, wear slipper, etc)
