Look What’s Happening In Kindergarten
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! We are entering a very busy time of the year. Please make sure to check folders for any important information that may be coming home. Here’s what we will be doing in the classroom this week.
MATH – This week we will be matching number cards to sets of objects, comparing sets of objects, weighing objects using nonstandard units, ordering by weight, combing sets, and identifying and ordering numbers 1-30.
RELIGION – This week we will begin discussing Advent, a time of waiting and preparing for the celebration of Jesus’ birth.
HANDWRITING – This week we will practice the letter J. We will also practice writing sightwords and review numbers 1-10.
SOCIAL STUDIES – This week we will identify the celebrations and holidays of various cultures. We will also describe traditions of our local community.
READING/LANGUAGE ARTS – This week we will attach the /b/ sound to the letter Bb, finish rhyming sentences, attach the /k/ sound to the letter Kk, review previous sight words, decode new sight words, and begin a new unit in our Big Book entitled “Stick To It”. We will talk about what it means to “stick to a task”, generate questions about the theme, develop new vocabulary words, and complete a writing piece on the unit theme.
HEALTH – This week we will begin learning internal and external body parts and how they work. We will also learn ways to keep our bodies working properly.
