News for the week of October 31 – November 6, 2012

Letter from the Principal:

Dear SJV Families,

I hope you are having a blessed week!  Thank you to everyone who came to the Parish/School Picnic on Sunday.  It looked like everyone had a great time enjoying the beautiful weather and sharing time with friends.

We are excited to be hosting Bishop Choby tomorrow from 12-3.  He is visiting every school in the Diocese of Nashville this year as part of the 175th anniversary of the Diocese.  Every school has been asked to put together a presentation for him, and our teachers and students have been hard at work.  Bishop will eat lunch with our Student Government Representatives and Officers, and then the entire school will gather in the gym to celebrate All Saints Day with the Hall of Saints and learn more about what life was like 175 years ago when the Diocese first began.

Please remember that we would love for you to join us at Mass tomorrow morning at 8am for All Saints Day, or on Friday, when the 3rd through 8th grades will attend Mass for the Feast of All Souls.

God bless,

Jennifer McCormick

This year’s book fair is packed with great books and other fun items to spark your child’s (and an adults) imagination!   As hard as it is to believe- the holidays are right around the corner so you can get a jump start on your holiday shopping too!  Check your child’s Wednesday folder for info!

Volunteers are needed at the book fair!  The book fair is being hosted by the 1st and 7th grade – and they need workers to pull it all together.  If your child is in either of these grades – or if you just want to help, please contact Anita Gad (7th) at or Nina Collins (1st) at and let them know what you can do to help!

The annual Civic Center Christmas Harvest Festival is on November 17th from 9:00 – 5:00.  Every year Saint John Vianney has a bake sale booth with proceeds benefitting the SJV Athletic Committee.  If you would like to help it would be greatly appreciated.  We need baked goods, pies, cakes, and candies.  Please wrap anything you donate.  Baked goods can be brought to the school on Friday, November 16th between 8:00 – 3:00, or brought to the Gallatin Civic Center between 4:30 – 6:30.  Items can also be delivered to the Civic Center on the 17th between 9:00 – 2:00.

If you would like to help, volunteers are needed and appreciated.  If you would like to volunteer, please contact Jennifer Schindler at 615-289-4847.

Science Olympiad will host their annual Donut Sale during morning drop-off on Wednesday, November 7.   Students may purchase a donut for $1.00 and can eat them in the gym before they are dismissed to their classrooms.  Parents who want to take a dozen donuts into the office can purchase a box for $10.  All funds raised go toward the Science Olympiad team’s entry fee for the Regional Competition at Vol State Community College.

Please remember that Winter Uniform begins tomorrow – November 1 and will be in effect through March 31, 2013.  Please make sure to check your handbook and have the correct attire..
