This Week in 2nd Grade

This week is Red Ribbon Week. We are creating a door display called “Ms. Wright’s Class Leaves Drugs Alone.”

 

Reading: This week we are reading “Hungry Hoppers: Grasshoppers in Your Backyard.” The vocabulary words for this selection are the following: sensing–feeling; antenna–an insect feeler; fussy–hard to please; dull–not bright or clear; cycle–a repeated sequence of events. Test on the selection will be on Friday.

Spelling: This week’s words are: tail, reach, queen, fear, say, gave, sweet, acorn, player, even. Challenge words are: underneath, always, depend, wait, sneeze. Spelling test is on Friday.

Religion: We are continuing to talk about Moses and the Ten Commandments. Chapter 8 quiz is on Thursday and Unit 2 test is on Friday.

Math: Fact assessment over sums of 8 and 9 and review facts is Tuesday. This is a 2 minute timed test. Starting Tuesday, we will be working on facts with sums of 10. Written assessment is on Wednesday. The assessment may include: story problems; dividing shapes into halves or fourths; counting dimes and pennies; days of the week and months of the year; odd and even numbers; addition facts; tally marks; horizontal, vertical, and oblique lines.

Science: We are starting a new chapter this week titled People Grow and Change.

Social Studies: We are reviewing Unit 1. Test over Unit 1 will be on Wednesday.
