This Week in 2nd Grade
Reading: We are reading Corduroy by Don Freeman. The vocabulary words for this week are: palace, escalator, dashing, fastened, and yanked. The words and their definitions were sent home today in the Homework folder. Test on vocabulary and comprehension will be on Friday.
Spelling: This week’s words are: wren, knot, knife, write, phone, graph, wrap, here, phase, knit. Challenge words are: alphabet, wrinkle, known, concrete, photo. Test on Friday.
Language Arts: We are still working on our fairy tales. We are also continuing to learn about subjects and predicates. Test on sentences will be on Friday.
Math: We will have a test tomorrow. The test may include: telling time to the hour, one hour ago, or one hour later; ordinal numbers to the 12th position; patterns; identifying shapes; reading a graph; identifying even and odd numbers; adding 9 facts; and naming weekdays and weekend days.
Religion: We are learning more about Adam and Eve and Original Sin. Quiz on Chapter 5 will be on Thursday.
Science: We started a new chapter today titled Animals Grow and Change. We will be classifying animals. New vocabulary words are: mammal, reptile, amphibian, insect, and life cycle. Please bring your cardboard snake to school by Wednesday September 19th.
Social Studies: We will be learning about how communities have changed over time, including communication and transportation changes.
