Students should be busy working on several different writings for competitions. They will be turning in their drafts for Scholastic writings next week (on the day designated for writing). After peer reviews and final corrections, these writings will be sent to Scholastic. Your child should have a permission sheet for you to sign. The permission slips are also due next week.
Students should also be planning a essay for either the VFW Patriot’s Pen competition or for a Mary Knoll magazine competition. They will be required to enter one (and will be graded for doing so), but they may enter both if interested. Scholarship money is awarded to winners of both competitions. These essays are due on October 17th.
We have also been chosen by The Knights of Columbus to compete for $500 scholarships to be used toward SJV tuition. Sixth and Seventh graders will be eligible, and the topic will be discussed in class. More information will be coming home with them soon.
Students are allowed (and encouraged) to use grammarly.com to check their essays for spelling/grammar errors. The website is grammarly.com – username: firstname.lastname@example.org password: studentcheck
If anyone need a refresher course on how to use grammarly.com, he/she should see me during recess.
