News for the week of February 15 – February 21,2012
“Your every act should be done with love.” – 1 Corinthians 16:14
Letter from the Principal:
Dear families,
I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Valentine’s Day! We had a fabulous dance party here yesterday (I’m sorry for the delay in dismissal, but the “Cupid Shuffle” contest ran over!). It was wonderful to see the students enjoying time together with each other and their buddies. Many thanks to all the parents who contributed to make this party a success!
We are still looking for a Party Parent coordinator for next year so that parties such as this can continue. If you think you might be interested in this role next year, please let me know soon. You would have a great opportunity to learn the ropes from this year’s coordinator, Mrs. Gardner, by working alongside her as she plans the End of the Year Party. Remember the Party Parent coordinator does have help from other parents, as well as Mrs. Roberts and myself, in planning each party.
I hope you all enjoy your four-day weekend! The teachers and I will be spending Friday at Father Ryan in Diocesan-wide Professional Development. We have some great seminars lined up, so I hope that we all return on Tuesday with exciting new things to do in the classrooms!
God bless,
Jennifer McCormick

FINANCIAL AID FOR 2012-2013: Those families wishing to apply for financial aid for the 2012-2013 school year must apply online at www.tads.com. Please remember that you must reapply each year for financial aid, and that families not meeting their volunteer hour obligation will not be considered for financial aid. The deadline for applying is March 31.
ITBS TESTING BEGINS FEBRUARY 27: Students in grades K-8 will be taking the Iowa Test of Basic Skills the weeks of February 27-March 2 and March 5-9. Please do not schedule routine doctor or dentist appointments during the morning hours of these two weeks if possible. We want students to be at their best, so please ensure they get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast these two weeks especially.
TEAM SPIRIT TUESDAY: There will be a Team Spirit Tuesday on Tuesday, February 21 for members of the SJV Basketball and Science Olympiad Teams. These students should wear their team jerseys or t-shirts with blue jeans and white tennis shoes. Basketball players should then launder their uniforms and return them to school as soon as possible.
COLD AND FLU SEASON IS HERE: and we are starting to feel the effects here at the school. So that we can get through this current round of illness quickly, please remember that children should be symptom free (vomiting, fever, diarrhea, etc) for 24 hours after the last episode of the aforementioned, prior to returning to school. Adhering to these guidelines will ensure the fewest illnesses, with the quickest recovery time! Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
student uniform and grooming: The upcoming four day weekend provides an perfect opportunity to check you child’s hair length (girls hair cannot hang in face, girls and boys bangs should not touch the eyebrow, boys hair should not touch collar), skirt and jumper length (no shorter than 2” above knee), trouser length, garment staining, tears, etc. Additionally, please talk with your children about grooming habits…bed head, shirt tails out, wrinkled clothing etc. If you have any questions about the uniform policy please feel free to contact the school office.

Girls get into math and science at Camp St. Cecilia!
Camp St. Cecilia wants middle school girls to have fun with math and science this summer. SCA science teachers Dr. Karen Deal and Mrs. Rebecca Simon will be leading the SCA Science Olympics camp (June 11-15) where girls can try out engineering, astronomy, and other science projects. Girls can perform fun, scientific experiments during the Be a Myth buster! camp with Ms. Ashley George and Mrs. Maggie Kuyper (June 18-22). And for those girls who love numbers, Algebra Help and Advanced Math Help camps, both the week of July 16-20, are the perfect places for them this summer. Both camps will help girls prepare for pre-algebra and algebra through fun experiments and computer simulations. Finally, Fun with Geometry (June 25-29) will explore trigonometry, polygons, construction and more. To register for Camp St. Cecilia, visit www.stcecilia.edu. For more information, contact Camp Director Amie Pike at pikea@stcecilia.edu or (615)298-4525 ext. 660
